Should the UFC be scared of Manny Pacquiao?

In lieu of UFC’s devastating loss to the Mayweather vs. Marquez fight, the UFC hasn’t been as brash in their battle against boxing. In fact, you don’t hear as much from the UFC as you did before the head to head with Mayweather Jr. Could this lack of talking be a sign that the UFC has realized that boxing is still alive? Or, could this be that the UFC knows they will lose again when they battle against Manny Pacquiao on November 14th?

Should the UFC be scared of an inevitable defeat? Should they be scared of Manny Pacquiao? In short, yes they should be scared of both and here’s why.

With the huge success of Mayweather vs. Marquez, boxing pulled in some incredible numbers. In fact, many sources claim that boxing doubled up the UFC in PPV buys when the two sports went head to head on September 19th. This is troubling news for the UFC.

Next, the UFC goes head to head with boxing’s pound-4-pound king and arguably its biggest international star, Manny Pacquiao. With boxing’s latest success against the UFC, Pacquiao’s popularity, and the fact that UFC 105 is on tape-delay there is no way UFC can win on any level.

The UFC should be scared of the damage that might be caused from their inevitable loss to Manny Pacquiao. They would be 0-2 against boxing and potentially take a step back in the eyes of mainstream sports.

You can sugar coat it anyway you want to, but a loss to Pacquiao will hurt the UFC. It will delay their attempts to be the top combat sport in America.. It will hurt the ratings for their televised event which in this country means a loss in dollars…. Poor ratings directly impacts the money that advertisers are willing to spend.. So, not only does it stunt the UFC’s mainstream growth, but the inevitable loss to Pacquiao will also cost them some money…

No company wants to lose money. In addition to the lack of trash talking, UFC has barely even spoke about their UFC 105 event on November 14th. Not since Randy Couture was announced to fight has there been any real chatter. UFC did everything they could to try and gain viewers for UFC 103 and they still lost badly… Could the UFC be waiving the white flag already?

Ultimately, I think the UFC has to realize that there’s no way they can come out ahead of Boxing this year. 2 big losses in head to head match-ups is hard to overcome. The only way UFC has a chance to even compete against Boxing is to stack the fight cards like they did at UFC 100.

When Dana White lays down and closes his eyes at night, I guarantee he will have nightmares of Pacquiao and Mayweather boxing and dancing in his head.
